Mike: Kim and I feel incredibly honored to Co-Chair the Evening of Energy Gala alongside Mitzi, Jeff, and their whole family. Being a physician and an orthopedic surgeon, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know many patients dealing with mitochondrial disorders and a spectrum of conditions linked to dysfunction. It’s unfortunate that mitochondrial issues are often misunderstood and misdiagnosed. I’d wager that many people aren’t fully aware of how these disorders impact the body. We all remember from biology class that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Just think about the chaos that can unfold in your body when this powerhouse isn’t working as it should. These disorders, coupled with the aging process, affect a much larger number of people and have a significant impact on almost every medical condition that physicians encounter.

Kim: We are extremely passionate about supporting CFAC and mitochondrial research because we are confident it will have a positive impact on so many people’s lives. With the help from donors and sponsors, we will be able to put mitochondrial research at the forefront of medicine. The way I see it, the future of our health and the well-being of generations to come really rely on the progress we make through mitochondrial research.
