#Mitochondria Matter

Facts to know

We All Have Mitochondria

Mitochondria exist in nearly every cell of the human body. It’s responsible for creating 90% of the energy you need to sustain life and support organ function. The quality of mitochondrial function is crucial in nearly every aspect of human life.

What is Mitochondrial Disease

It’s an energy production problem. When mitochondria cannot convert food and oxygen into life-sustaining energy, cell injury and even cell death follow. When this process is repeated throughout the body, organ systems stop functioning. There are 47 mitochondrial diseases and counting, including MEPAN, MELAS, TK2d, Barth syndrome, Kearns-Sayre syndrome, Mitochondrial DNA Depletion syndrome, Pearson syndrome, and Leigh syndrome.
